Feeling Nervous About Your Dental Appointment?

Dental anxiety is common, approximately 75% of adults have some sort of fear about visiting the dentist. Your upcoming complex procedure can be nerve-racking.

The fear is normal, but its only when you allow the anxiety to build up, not allowing you to make an appointment. Which is why we offer sedation.

In Cascadia Smiles, we implement many sedation options to ensure your comfort during your visit with us. No matter how severe your dental anxiety is, we have sedation options to give you that peace of mind.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation are pills that are taken before your dental appointment. You maintain a level of consciousness and go into a dream-like state.

This is an effective method to help you feel at ease, you may not even remember your dental visit.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a gas that is used for making you carefree and laugh,  hence its other name "laughing gas."

Nitrous oxide involves wearing a mask that fits snugly to your nose and breathing in. Nitrous oxide is known to have a sweet smell, some people state that it smells like bubble gum.

Before you leave our office, we make sure that all of the nitrous oxide is out of your system by giving you pure oxygen for 5 minutes. This completely rids your body of all the nitrous oxide and you will be back to normal and be able to drive yourself back home!

 General Anesthesia

IV anesthesia or General anesthesia is the deepest form of sedation. This is often done for procedures that are long, and for patients that suffer from severe anxiety.

General anesthesia is incredibly safe in our office. We utilize a board-certified medical anesthesiologist to come to our office, specifically for this procedure. A registered nurse is available as well, to ensure that you wake up safe and sound. We take every precaution to ensure your safety in our office.

if you have any questions regarding this sedation option, please don't hesitate to call!

Dr. Osafi is Burien's Safe Sedation Dentist

Your safety is our number one concern. When administering sedation options, we take the following precautions:

  • We typically ask you not to eat or drink anything for 8 hours before your procedure, except prescription medications.

  • We complete a pre-sedation checklist, to ensure you fit the recommended parameters to be sedated.

  • We monitor your blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate the entire time you’re sedated.

  • We ask you to rest in our office for 15-20 minutes after your procedure.

  • We require that you have a responsible adult drive you to and from your appointment.

When you’re under our care, you can trust that you’ll be treated with the utmost safety and special attention.
